BlackBerry Privacy Policy — User Overview

Effective: February 3, 2025

Scope: Applies to BlackBerry websites, accounts, events, products, software, apps, support portals, professional services, and related technologies. Product-specific privacy data sheets may add further details. The English version controls over translations.

1. Data Collection and Use

Information collected

Depending on how you interact with BlackBerry, it may collect:

  • Contact and professional information: Name, job title, company, email, mailing address, country, phone number, event attendance, and recent interactions.
  • Device and technical data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser, preferred language, and approximate location inferred from IP address.
  • Website and usage data: Referring websites, pages visited, navigation paths, content interactions, chatbot conversations, and responses to emails.
  • Product and service data: Information needed to provide services, manage licenses, support users, improve products, and understand usage. Exact categories depend on the particular product.
  • Communications: Support emails, messages, chatbot interactions, and potentially voice-call recordings and transcripts.
  • Payment information: Payments are handled by PCI/DSS-compliant providers. BlackBerry states it does not store or access payment-card details.
  • Third-party data: Information from business partners and service providers may supplement what you provide.
Main purposes

BlackBerry uses data to provide and support services, process purchases, manage accounts and licenses, improve products and websites, conduct analytics, market products, run events and promotions, prevent fraud, secure systems, enforce legal rights, and comply with law.

Its legal bases may include consent, contract performance, legal obligations, vital or public interests, and BlackBerry’s legitimate interests. Consent can generally be withdrawn, but withdrawal may prevent BlackBerry from providing certain services.

Tracking and advertising

Cookies and similar technologies support website functionality, analytics, campaign measurement, and targeted advertising on BlackBerry or other websites. Cookie choices are addressed in a separate Cookie and Tracking Technologies Notice.

2. User Rights

Rights depend on location and circumstances. They may include:

  • Accessing personal data
  • Correcting inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deleting data
  • Restricting or objecting to processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdrawing consent
  • Opting out of marketing
  • Opting out of targeted advertising or certain profiling in Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Virginia
  • Appealing certain privacy-rights decisions in those states
  • Filing a complaint with an applicable data-protection authority, including in the EEA/UK

Requests generally must be made in writing and may require identity verification. BlackBerry may deny or charge for requests that are excessive, repetitive, malicious, or impossible to verify. California requests generally receive confirmation within 10 days and a response within 45 days, extendable to 90 days.

Marketing can be stopped through an unsubscribe link, BlackBerry’s unsubscribe page, or written notice. Service-related communications cannot be disabled where necessary for account, security, warranty, recall, upgrade, or service administration.

3. Third-Party Sharing

BlackBerry says it does not sell, lease, or trade collected personal data. However, it may share or provide access to data with:

  • Other BlackBerry entities
  • Hosting, support, marketing, analytics, maintenance, and operational vendors
  • Advertising networks using aggregated profile information for targeted advertising
  • Event co-sponsors, when disclosed during registration
  • Government agencies or law enforcement when legally required or necessary to address fraud, piracy, safety threats, or legal-rights violations
  • Buyers or parties involved in mergers, acquisitions, or asset sales
  • Providers of third-party offerings you choose to download or use

Third-party offerings are governed by the third party’s own privacy policy. International transfers may occur, including to Canada and other countries, using adequacy decisions, contractual safeguards, or other lawful mechanisms.

4. AI/ML Training

The Policy does not expressly state whether personal data, support interactions, product usage data, recordings, or other information is used to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. It broadly permits product development, analytics, and improvement, but this is not the same as an explicit AI-training authorization. Users should review the applicable product privacy data sheet or supplemental notice for clarification.

5. Key User Obligations and Restrictions

  • If submitting another person’s data, you must have their consent or legal authority.
  • You must comply with applicable product, service, license, and third-party terms.
  • Users under 16 or below the local age of majority should not provide data; BlackBerry says its services are not directed to them.
  • You remain responsible for securing your account and promptly reporting suspected compromise.
  • Withdrawing required data or consent may make certain services unavailable.

6. Liability and Disputes

The Policy contains no detailed governing-law clause, arbitration requirement, court-selection clause, or general liability cap. It does state that internet transmission cannot be guaranteed secure and that users transmit data at their own risk. BlackBerry describes its safeguards as “commercially reasonable,” but does not guarantee absolute security.

Privacy complaints may be submitted to BlackBerry’s privacy contact or, where available, a local supervisory authority. This Policy alone does not specify remedies or compensation for a breach.

7. Changes

BlackBerry may change the Policy at any time. The current version applies whenever you use its services. Material changes will be reflected through an updated “Last Updated” date and noted in the Policy. Continued use after changes are posted is treated as acceptance; the Policy does not promise individualized notice by email.
